Ryan Cole, Trombone

Ryan Cole is a senior at Jefferson High School. He has performed in the All-State band for 4 years, this past year being selected as first chair trombonist, and 3rd chair trombonist in the All-National Orchestra.  He has also performed in numerous honor bands and community ensembles.  He has been a member of the Charles Washington Symphony Orchestra for two years. Next year he will attend WVU to major in trombone performance.

Jie Hyue Kim, Violin

JIE HYUE KIM, DMA

Dr. Kim, a native of Daejeon, South Korea, began studying violin at the Age of 8.  She completed her undergraduate work at the Chung Nam National University in South Korea.  Her Masters was completed at Queens College, CUNY where she studied with Daniel Phillips, of the Orion Quartet. She then went on to received her D.M.A. from Catholic University. 

As an orchestral musician Dr. Kim has performed at New York’s Merkin Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center in Washington DC. She currently serves as the assistant concert master for the National String Symphonia and principal second violin of the Loudoun Symphony Orchestra, VA.

As a soloist, Dr. Kim has been invited to play with the NOVA philharmonic, Queensboro Symphony Orchestras in New York and the Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra in Virginia. She has also participated in the AIMS Festival Orchestra in Graz, Austria, Virginia's Blue Ridge Music Festival, and the Castleton Music Festival Orchestra under Lorin Maazel. She is also a founding member of the prize winning Eclat Piano Trio.

As an arranger and orchestrator, Dr. Kim has been arranging music for numerous church orchestras and choirs. She orchestrates music for the St. Thomas Korean Catholic Center in California, and has provided her services for the Washington Korean Symphony Orchestra. Some of her notable contributions were for the Korean War 60th Anniversary Memorial Concert, NAPAW Memorial Concert, the 2011 Peace concert at the Kennedy Center, and for various events at the Korean Embassy.

Frankie, Louis, and the 'Gang

CWSO will present a concert of classical favorites including the Egmont Overture by Beethoven, Mozart's Flute Concerto in G Major featuring our Guest Artist William C. Marlowe, and "The London Symphony" (no. 104) by Haydn. We will also be featuring our newly formed Charles Washington Youth Orchestra. Admission is by donation.
