Spring Concert with Kari Beth Pennington, Horn soloist
Kari Beth Pennington embarked upon her musical journey in 4th grade when she began taking guitar lessons. In the 5th grade she started learning to play the French horn. That summer, she began playing mellophone in her local marching band, which she continued to do throughout elementary and middle school. Once in high school, she participated in every ensemble offered, as well as performing with guitar, trumpet, and horn in jazz bands at Tooele High School, and later at Washington High School. She played horn in concert band and wind ensemble, and was a section leader during her junior and senior year. In her junior year, she joined a brass quintet and played in other brass ensembles from the Ellsworth School of Music. She was first chair in Shepherd University’s Gold Band and was the first horn in the region after Allstate auditions in her senior year. Now, she is a sophomore music education major attending Shenandoah University, performing in pep band, concert band, and wind ensemble. Outside of school, she is a member of the Clarke County Community Band, Clarke County Brass Quintet, and the Charles Washington Symphony Orchestra. She also teaches horn and trumpet lessons and helps to direct the Ellsworth Brass Choir.
